Keeping the Outside of Your Home Maintained
There are countless lists of spring cleaning tips and advice for cleaning bathrooms, kitchens, bedrooms, and more, but the outside of the house is often neglected. Outdoor maintenance tips seem to be all the rage in the spring, but there are some tasks that simply cannot be done when the possibility of rain showers is so high.
Other maintenance issues need to be taken care of multiple times instead of just once every spring. The following are some tips to keep your home in good condition throughout the year:
- Clean the Gutters. This is a simple task and should be performed on a regular basis, especially after heavy rains. While the most debris will accumulate in the fall, it is wise to at least do a sweep of your gutters and make sure there isn't anything blocking them.
- Check Your Roof. The roof is your home's primary defense against water damage, and if it develops cracks or leaks during the rainy spring months, rain could cause some severe problems for your home.
- Check the Trim. The trim around your windows is a prime entry point for water and air, and if it becomes warped or damaged by water or heat, then you might experience slight drafts and increased humidity in your home. Use a screwdriver to probe the trim for weak spots.
- Paint and Seal the Home. A house made from wood needs to be sealed and painted to protect it from the elements. This is a time-consuming and often expensive task, but it must be done periodically if your home is to keep its value and its beauty.
