All About Geothermal Heating

Have you heard of geothermal heating and are wondering how it works? You're in luck - we have an overview of it in this post.

The basic idea of geothermal heating is to use the natural heat in the ground to warm your home. The ground, if you go deep enough, is about 50 degrees year round, and its heat can be used to heat the house to a comfortable temperature.

All kinds of geothermal heating systems use some sort of well. There are three types of wells: a horizontal closed loop, a vertical closed loop, or an open loop. The closed loops are filled with antifreeze that circulates and brings the heat of the ground to the house. The open loop does the same thing except with groundwater.

A heat pump uses this well as well as a closed loop of liquid refrigerant to compress and make hot gas. This gas then heats the house.
