DIY Brick Patio

DIY Brick Patio

Looking to redo your patio this summer? This DIY brick patio could be the kind you've been looking for. Just follow these straightforward steps so you can have a nice place to sit in the summer sun.

  1. Determine the desired size and area of the patio.
  2. Remove seven inches of dirt from that location.
  3. Run a plate compactor over it to make a solid dirt foundation.
  4. Pour on 2 inches of your base material. Grated base, which is a mixture of stone chunks and stone dust, is a good one to use here.
  5. Run the plate compactor over the area again.
  6. Set up a baseline string to measure where the patio should eventually rise to.
  7. Put in screen rails to segment the patio, set them in sand, and smooth it out.
  8. Put down your pavers. The proper technique is to click them against each other, then set down, rather than drag them on the sand.
  9. Install the edging.
  10. Pour on a thin layer of sand, then run the plate compactor over it all to really settle it in.
