How to Design Your Ideal Glass Shower

Do you want to design a beautiful glass shower perfect for your home, but you don't know where to begin? There are plenty of good reasons to have a glass shower--they allow more light into the shower (which brightens up the whole room), they make any size bathroom feel more spacious, and quite frankly they can be very stylish. But how can you design a glass shower that will accomplish all those goals without breaking the bank? This video from eHow gives some great advice about what to consider when designing a shower that fits your needs and your budget.

You must consider how much privacy you want the shower to provide. The amount and transparency of glass you use will depend on how much privacy you want. The more privacy you want, the less glass your design should include, or the more frosted glass it should include. If you have your heart set on using a lot of transparent glass, you may want to make sure you invest in some good window shades.

When designing the shape of your shower, remember that straighter is cheaper. Depending on your budget, a footprint with a curvy shape may run the bill up higher than you want, since the glass may have to be custom-made. Most likely, your cheapest bet is to go for a rectangular or square shape.

Size is important; it affects the size of each glass panel and therefore the type of glass that can be used. There are 3 different kinds of glass used for glass showers: frameless, framed, and glass block. Each type has unique design capabilities, so be sure to consult with a professional bathroom remodeler to determine what type(s) of glass you could use for the size and shape of shower you want.

Plumbing fixtures must be positioned to spray parallel to the glass doors. If any plumbing fixtures are positioned perpendicular to the doors--whether that be the shower head or any body sprays--the water may spray through the cracks in the doors and flood the bathroom floor.

For the best results, consult a professional. Hopefully these tips will get you started, but in any home remodeling project, it's best to consult a professional who has experience with the kind of project you're doing and the materials you're considering using.
