How to Install a Brick Veneer

Do you have a boring, blank wall in your kitchen? Consider transforming it into a farmhouse brick wall with this DIY brick veneer project!

  1. For this project, we use a thin brick veneer instead of regular bricks. This allows us to install it without a different foundation and we get the same look as regular brick. You should, however, use a wood ledger, a piece of wood that is screwed into the wall and used as a straightedge to ensure your wall is even.
  2. As for laying the brick, we will take you through how to lay it subway style, with the bricks making that Tetris-style fitting. To start this, cut some bricks in half using a tile saw, then start at the edge of the way going up, whole and half alternating.
  3. Use 3/8" wood strips to serve as spacing between bricks, but you can also dry stack bricks right next to each other if you prefer.
  4. To finish it, add mortar to joints and brush it up. If you want, you can add a finish, or you can leave it the way it is.
