Trends in Home Decor

Are you wondering what's been in? If you've been stuck under a rock for the past year, we've got you covered with this article. We'll review the recent trends in colors, custom doors, windows, and roofs to get you up-to-date on everything you need to know. Knowledge is power normally, but here knowledge is more than that - it's about keeping your neighbors' heads turning in awe and your visitors' eyes widening with amazement. But none of that's possible without knowing what's what, so let's get to it!

First off, twice as many people are digging blended colors than separated colors. If you're in that minority that prefers separated colors and you're a man, you're not alone! 61% of its advocates were male. Still, it's worth noting that the majority tend to prefer blended colors, so be prepared for censure if you choose to do otherwise.

As far as actual colors, there are four types that are trendy: techno colors, sports colors, nostalgic colors, and eco-friendly colors. Techno colors include faceted emerald, exuberant orange, vital purple, and true blue. Under sports colors, you'll get more demure choices, like satellite gray, gothic olive, grayed grape, and foggy gray (seems like they've got a preference for gray, huh?). Then there are the bright nostalgic colors like margarita green, lotus, cafe creme, and provincial blue. Last but not least, environmentalist-types might opt for colors that blend in like absinthe green, a darker dazzling blue, or a burnt orange fusion coral. So many of these colors look good, I don't envy the person that has to choose!

Let's move on to doors. Four types of doors in particular are making comebacks: ornamented doors, glass panel doors, Asian lock doors, and vibrant color doors.

What about roofs? In general, the trend tends to be towards energy efficient roofs. This includes roofs with solar panels as well as asphalt roofs. 80% of homes already use asphalt roofs, so if you're not, you are on the back half of the curve, my friend. In California, new buildings must be ready for solar panels to encourage those purchases.

Finally, let's look at the trending window varieties. Increasingly, organic materials will be used, the idea being to highlight their natural beauty. Bamboo in Roman shades is a popular examples of this. Another general idea is to be simpler, though bolder and bigger print patterns are in.

40% of respondents to a survey on anticipated purchases in 2015 chose "Home Improvement" as the likely option. If you want to keep up and fashionable, now is the time to do it! For more information on the trends of 2014, check out the infographic below.
