DIY Change a Plug

If you've got a defunct plug, don't sweat it - we've got the info you need to get it fixed up.

Before you get started, you'll need just a few materials: screwdrivers, the new plug, and multi-purpose wire strippers/pliers.

Once you have those things gathered, take these steps:

  1. Turn off the power for that area of the house.
  2. Unscrew the old plug, making sure that none of the pins or the fuse fall out.
  3. Prepare the wires, including how long they need to be to reach the terminals.
  4. Cut the wires and strip the end of them at least 1/2 an inch.
  5. Twist the end of the wires to connect the terminal and new plug.
  6. Secure each using a small screwdriver.
  7. Screw the plug casing back on.
