FYI: History of Plumbing

This post, let's reflect on how far we've come in plumbing, so we can all appreciate innovations in technology in this area.

The world's first water closet was in 2000 BCE in India - it really amount to not much more than a pot of water. However, when the aqueduct came around during the 7th Century BCE in Greece, plumbing really began to take off.

The first flush toilet has a relatively short life, as it was invented in 1596 by Sir John Harrington. But still, pipe systems weren't in place until the 1800s, and the 1830s saw the modern sewer system put into place in the US. Of course, it wasn't until 1890 or so that the average person acquired a toilet.
