How to Choose a Paint Color

When it is time to choose a color for your next painting project, it can be difficult to know what is the best color to choose. There are several things which can go into the decision making process. In the video below, you will discover where to start and the steps you should take when deciding what color(s) you want to use.

The first item to think about is the color tones you want to use: Warm or Cool color tones. Warm tomes include oranges, yellows, and reds.  These are playful, energetic, and cheerful tones (or colors). The cool tones invoke feelings of relaxation and include greens, blues, purples, and violets.

The function of the room goes a long way in determining the tones of color you may want to choose. In addition, many times the climate your home is in may be important in the colors you choose to use in a room or in your home. Cold climate areas, for example, often have several warmer colors throughout the house to give it a warmer feel. And, of course, cooler colors are often found in homes where the climate is quite a bit warmer. This give the effect of having a cooler feel for the home.

There are many other things to look at when choosing colors for your home. One thing to consider is the purpose of the room. Do several people use the room or is it only used by one or two. A room that may be used by one person only, such as a bedroom, may reflect that person's personal taste or attraction for more intense color shades, while a living room may need colors which are not quite as intense.

A big consideration will be future or existing decor as well. What colors will match the furniture, the draperies, and the carpet. Since it is easier to choose a paint color than it is to chose all new furniture, this should be a large consideration.
