Use Social Media to Revitalize Your Home Decor
We all know that social media is changing our lives, but did you know it's changing the way we decorate our homes? More than ever before, anyone with access to the Internet has many resources at their fingertips to change their homes. Maybe you're wondering what your home would look like with warm colors instead of cool ones, or what furniture other people have to make a room's mood - all this and more is on social media, waiting for you to access it.
The biggest social media sites that affect home decor are Pinterest, Facebook, Houzz, and Homemint. Let's talk about each of these to get idea of what you can use each of them for.
Pinterest has become especially popular recently - their site has nearly 400 times more traffic than last year and 20 million unique users each month! Its primary uses are for home decor, art, design, fashion, and photography. How it works is once you sign up, which you can do with a Twitter or Facebook account, you make a "pinboard" for your project then "pin" photos and ideas from other users. In this way, you can collect a whole bunch of new ways to spice up your home decor!
I'm sure you've heard of Facebook - the social media site now reaches over half the world's population! What you may not have heard about Facebook is the big business pages! Facebook can be a good way to find out what businesses match your tastes so you can know where to buy the furniture and furnishes that you want.
Houzz is similar to Pinterest in that you look through photographs from 65,000 professionals for home decor ideas. You can browse by rooms and styles!
Homemint takes a different approach than any above. Started by musician and actor Justin Timberlake and designer Estree Stanley, it provides an online tool so you can get an idea of what you want for your room design. Other online services similar to Homemint include Design a Virtual Room by Better Homes and Gardens, Colorsmart by Behr, Ikea Home Planner, My Deco 3D Planner, and Autodesk's Homestyler. Using any one or combination of these tools, you can get a good idea of how your room will look before going through the hassle of buying everything and setting it up!
